Data migration is the elephant in the room for most projects and often proven to be a headache for many organisations, whether moving from paper-based systems with physical data and documents to software, or transferring data from one system to another. The process of selecting, preparing, extracting and transforming data from one location to another can be an extensive and tedious process.
There is a simpler way to migrate data
To make life easier for our clients we have released the Enquire Data Import tool which purpose built to make the process quicker, easier and more cost effective.
How does it work?
Identify the source data files and easily map this to your master data in the system. Run the migration, verify the data and you are up and running. It is as easy as that.
The 5 steps of data migration
1. Prepare your system.
Ensure that your system (Enquire) is configured to receive the data that will be migrated in there. This means that the templates, fields and dropdowns that the imported data will use need to be created in your system.
2. Prepare your data.
Create a CSV file with the data that you will import to the fields in your system. Every column will be a field in your system and every row will be a record to import.
3. Upload your file.
Make sure it’s a CSV file.
4. Map your data.
The system will ask you to state a destination field for every field you try to import – this is mapping. The names don’t have to be the same, but this is where your information will go. When you’re finished mapping all fields, you’ll save and look over the summary to check your mapping. When verified, you click Import.
5. Re-index your system.
After you have migrated your data in the system, your system needs to be re-indexed. This means that all imported information has to be aggregated by the index to streamline data retrieval. Once completed all the migrated records will be available in the project search.
